Dental Assisting

The Dental Assistant program will cover the following duties and training:

Other Continuing Education Courses Offered

Coronal Polishing

This program trains students to remove plaque and stains from exposed tooth surfaces using a rotary instrument equipped with a rubber cup or brush and a polishing agent. In order to qualify for this course, the student must have the following:

  • Proof of meeting qualifications for Dental Assistant II as determined by the North Carolina Board of Dental Examiners
  • Copies of your medical emergencies, infection control for the dental office (not Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA)
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification

Dental X-Ray

The dental radiography program equips you to handle dental radiographs, commonly called x-rays, that dentists use to find hidden dental structures, malignant or benign masses, bone loss, and cavities.

Only qualified dental team members can be exposed to the machinery used to create x-rays.

Fee: $500.00

CPR

This course costs $40.00-$65.00.

Specific Entrance Requirements

Any person who has attained a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) is eligible to attend our institution. All applicants must possess enthusiasm and a desire to learn the necessary skills to be a competent Dental Assistant.

Radiology Enrollment

For those students only taking the radiology component of the course, the duration will be 2 days for a total of 16 hours which will include lectures, laboratory experiments, and testing.

For examination purposes, when taking radiographs of a live patient, the student must schedule a time to expose the films when a licensed dentist is on site. This will also apply to students taking the comprehensive Dental Assisting I Course.
